August Blog Contest Winner

We have our August Blog Contest winner!

Congratulation to Judy P of Huntersville, NC. She shared her story of "Annual Marbles Tournament"!

Marbles and Jokers is spreading like wildfire in our area!

We were introduced to Marbles and Jokers by some friends, and quickly ordered two sets of our own. Now everyone in our area plays! We can’t get enough of it! We have taken our game on cruises and other trips and people are always stopping to see what we are playing and often times join in! As more of our friends started playing, we needed to combine our two game sets occasionally so that 10 or 12 people could play. We went out and found “tiger eye” marbles so that when we have more than 8 players, one player will be blue and one will be tiger eye blue. In a nut shell, we can have 16 people playing at once and we have a blast!

Friends of our started an “Annual Marbles Tournament” that is now hosted at a venue instead of a home. We have anywhere from 70-100 people attend. Couples pay $25 for the evening and this covers dinner, drinks and prizes. We go to a local establishment that is ours for the evening. At the tournament, only four people play at a table so this takes a lot of marble boards! The goal of the tournament is to get as many marbles as you can in Home or your “Castle” before the timer runs out (but also keeping your opponent from getting theirs in).

When time is up, everyone tally’s their marbles. If you and your partner get all of your marbles in Home, you get additional bonus points (so you don’t want to let them get them all in)! Any marbles that are not in Home count against you. Any that are still in Start count against you twice. After tallying the marbles, you move to the next table rotation that is assigned to you on a card when you walk in the door.

There are different twists and turns throughout the evening. We even have a round that in the middle of it you move to a different table and pick up where the other players left off and you finish out their game. We play several rounds in the course of the evening and you end up with a total score as a couple at the end of the night. Of course there are prizes…

There is even a trophy that goes to the winning couple’s home for that year, in addition to receiving a Marbles & Jokers Champions T-Shirt with the winning year on it! The couples that have won proudly wear their shirts back to the tournament each year. The couple with the lowest score gets dinner with the host and a private night of Marbles & Jokers…for tutoring purposes! All of it is in good fun!!!! But there is a lot of competition for the coveted trophy and t-shirts!!!

Obviously I can’t say enough about how much we enjoy this game! It is great for adult and kids as well! It goes everywhere we go and I am sure we will even be playing it with our grandkids one day!!!

Judy has won a $75 Wizard Woodworks Gift Certificate to use toward our full line of games. Be sure to keep sending in your stories, and we'll pick a new winner each month. You could be our next $75 winner for September!

Send us an Email or via our Contact Page and title it "Blog Contest" and we'll consider it for our next blog!

We look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,
Denise and Ron
